Frequently Asked Questions

Your Stairlift Questions Answered

Straightforward answers to the questions we get asked most often.

How much does a stairlift cost?

Stairlift prices depend on the type of stairlift you need. A reconditioned straight stairlift starts from around £995. New straight stairlifts typically cost between £2,000 and £3,000. Curved stairlifts are custom-built and usually cost between £3,500 and £7,000 depending on the shape of your staircase. We also offer rental options. See our cost guide for more detail.

Do you offer free surveys?

Yes. Every stairlift installation starts with a free, no-obligation home survey. Our surveyor will visit your home, measure your staircase, explain your options and give you a clear quote on the spot. There is no pressure and no hard sell.

How quickly can you install a stairlift?

For straight stairlifts, we can often install the very next day. Curved stairlifts are made to measure for your staircase and typically take 2-4 weeks from survey to installation.

Can I get a grant for a stairlift in Scotland?

Many councils in Scotland provide grants for stairlifts through the Scheme of Assistance. If you are assessed as needing a stairlift, your council may cover 80-100% of the cost. The process can take 3-18 months. Read our grants guide for more information.

What if my stairs have bends or turns?

You will need a curved stairlift. These are custom-built to fit the exact shape of your staircase, including bends, turns, intermediate landings and tight corners. We will measure everything during your free home survey.

Do you install reconditioned stairlifts?

Yes. We supply quality reconditioned stairlifts from around £995. Every reconditioned unit is fully serviced, safety-checked and comes with a warranty. Reconditioned stairlifts are only available for straight staircases.

Can I rent a stairlift instead of buying one?

Yes. We offer stairlift rental for both short-term and long-term needs. Rental is ideal if you need a stairlift temporarily, for example after surgery or while waiting for a grant application to be processed. See our rental page for details.

Will a stairlift damage my stairs or walls?

No. A stairlift rail is fixed to the treads of the stairs, not the wall. There is no structural work involved and the installation can usually be reversed with minimal trace.

What happens if my stairlift breaks down?

Contact us and we will arrange a repair. We offer stairlift repairs and servicing across Scotland. If your stairlift is under warranty, the repair may be covered. See our repairs page for more information.

Do you remove old stairlifts?

Yes. We offer a stairlift removal service for stairlifts that are no longer needed. We can also remove an old stairlift as part of a new installation. See our removal page.

What areas of Scotland do you cover?

We cover all of Scotland, with local offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Stirling, Motherwell, Greenock and Johnstone. Call your nearest office or our freephone number 0800 776 5404.

Is VAT charged on stairlifts?

If the stairlift is for a person with a long-term illness or disability, it is VAT exempt. Most of our customers qualify for this exemption. We will explain how it works during your survey.
