Out With the Old

Removal as Part of a Replacement

If your current stairlift has stopped working, become unreliable, or simply reached the end of its life, we can remove the old unit and install a replacement - often on the same day.

We handle the full process: disconnecting and removing the old stairlift and rail, filling any fixings where possible, and fitting your new or reconditioned replacement. There is no need to arrange separate tradespeople.

Same-Day Swap Available

For straight stairlifts, we can often remove your old unit and fit the replacement on the same day. Call us to check availability in your area.

Common Reasons for Replacing a Stairlift

Most customers who contact us about stairlift removal are looking to replace an ageing or unreliable unit. Here are the most common situations we help with.

  • Stairlift keeps breaking down and repair costs are adding up faster than the unit is worth
  • Noisy or uncomfortable older model that no longer feels safe or pleasant to use
  • Spare parts unavailable for discontinued models that can no longer be serviced
  • Needs have changed and a different type of stairlift would be more suitable now

In many cases, a quality reconditioned stairlift from around £995 is a more practical solution than continuing to patch up an old one.

It May Be a Selling Point

For the right buyer, a stairlift already fitted can be a genuine advantage. Your estate agent can advise whether to keep or remove it.

Removal Not Always Needed

Stairlift Removal Questions

How much does it cost to remove a stairlift in Scotland?

Stairlift removal costs vary depending on the type and size of the unit. Contact us for a quote - we will ask a few questions about your stairlift to give you an accurate price. In some cases, if the stairlift is a model we can recondition, we may be able to offset some or all of the removal cost. Call us on 0800 776 5404 for a no-obligation discussion.

Will stairlift removal damage my staircase?

No. The rail is fixed to the stair treads with a small number of screws, not to the walls. Our engineers remove the fixings carefully, leaving only small screw holes in the treads. These can be filled and are not normally noticeable, particularly on carpeted stairs. There is no damage to walls, plasterwork or skirting boards.

How long does stairlift removal take?

Removing a straight stairlift typically takes around 1 to 2 hours. Curved stairlifts take a little longer due to the length and complexity of the rail. Our engineers will take the unit away and dispose of it responsibly. We aim to leave your home clean and tidy when we are done.
